APARA KRIYA CENTRE
( Pitru Vidhi )
Facilities

‘Aparakriya’ is the post death ritual performed for the salvation of the departed soul.

The rites are performed over a period of 10 days (from 3rd day to 12th day) depending upon the convenience and wishes of the Karta. Since these rites, especially on 10th 11th and 12th day, are to be performed in isolation, it becomes rather difficult to have these performed at one’s dwelling place especially in a city like Mumbai where people live in clusters. There are a few centers in the city and suburbs of Mumbai like those in Dombivli, Mulund, Thane, Andheri, Mira Road and in Kopar Khairane, in Navi Mumbai which are frequented predominantly by believers of tradition.

It is well known that the Pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Maha Periyavaal was very concerned for those who are distraught at not being able to perform the last rites of those departed in a befitting manner as ordained in the Vedas, because of space and facility constraints. Sri Jayendra Swamiji too had always exhorted people in Mumbai to set up such centers for the purpose. Thus Dharmishta Mithran went on to set up a center at Saibaba Industrial Complex, Off P L Lokhande Marg, on 16th June 2002. The Swamiji was happy with Mithran’s efforts when he visited the center on 22nd January 2003.

He appealed to the gathering to pay heed to those Saints and Savants who have deemed the performance of Pitru karmas as the most important duty towards one’s parents and Ancestors. The Shanti Sthal thus stood venerated.

With the facility at Saibaba Complex wanting in many aspects, Mithran started looking out for a user-friendly place. When Late Shri Pramod Shirwalkar, an Ex-MLA from Chembur and a champion of several social causes, heard about it he not only identified the land at Jai Ambe Nagar but also got MHADA to raise a structure for housing the Center through Vision Foundation, from MLA’s discretionary fund. The Center became functional from February, 2004 and since then Mithran has been maintaining it to the satisfaction of all users all these years.

In the following years, with efforts from DM and active support from the then Corporator Shri Rajendra Suman Chaughule, the approach road got Asphalted and is motorable. Later in 2008, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai named the road “Chakyar Rajan Marg” as a tribute to the late Sri “Chakyar Koothu” Rajan. The naming of the road was at the hands of Sri Venkat Chary IAS
