History
Organisation

Dharmishta Mithran, a non-governmental organization,

owes its origin to a handful of public spirited men with proven records in social work. Dharmishta Mithran was registered under section 25 (now Section 8) of Companies Act, and its certificate of incorporation bears the number U85110 MH 2001 NPL 134048 dated 27th November 2001. The Objects of Mithran are entirely non-commercial. Believing in the latent desire in every human being to reach out to those in need of help, M/s N.Hariharan, V.G.Parameswaran, K.Parameswaran, M N Ramamurthy and a few others came together in the Siddivinayaka Temple at Chedda Nagar and formed an organization called DHARMISHTA MITHRAN, drawing into its fold all like minded people. Dharmishta Mithran acknowledges and places on record the commendable and pioneering efforts of Shri VG Parameswaran (popularly known as Muthumani), Shri N Hariharan, Shri MN Ramamurthi and Shri K Parameswaran in making the organization vibrant and ready to render help to the needy and the community at large.

A Board of Directors consisting of upto 15 members looks after the overall Management and an Executive Committee of upto 4 Directors look after the day-to- day Management of the organisation.

These handful of people have been doing commendable social work whenever called upon to do so, putting things together, be it in supporting a marriage of the needy, assist in funding education of the deprived or helping the bereaved family with preparations for anthim sanskaras upon passing away of a person from the family. The enormity of the task is such that a few individuals are far too less for help to go round. Thus from a handful of members, the total strength of the organization has gone above 800. The members are from all strata of society giving Mithran an egalitarian base. For like minded persons who wish to join us, the membership form can be downloaded (click Membership Form.pdf here ) The completed application form will be collected by the EC member or can be sent by post to the Registered office at Deonar, Mumbai, or as email attachment in case of NEFT on enrollment. Mithran is committed to the pursuit of sustained respectful ritual for the departed.

As an organization wedded to this cause to help the members of the society tide over the space and infrastructure constraints, it opened an Aparakriya Centre (SHANTI STHAL) in 2002 from a nondescript place at Lokhande Marg Chembur. thanks to the support of large hearted Shri Jagmohan Vohra. From here on, with the well wishing corporators and then MLA of Chembur area, it succeeded in its effort to move to a larger and user friendly place at Jai Ambe Nagar, off the Ghatkopar Mankhurd Link Road near Chheda Nagar.

Shri. Kiran Shirwalkar, brother of late MLA Sri Pramodji Shirwalkar and the family of Pramodji continue to support our cause. They have unshaken faith in our commitment and able management of the facility at Jai Ambe Nagar which was set up to help people perform Pitru Vidhi in a befitting manner for their dear departed.

This centre has facility for all the aparakriyas ( Pitru Vidhi ) with separate kitchen and rooms / separate space for upto 6 (Six) families performing the rites at any given time. For the more intense Ekahomam and Kuzhi tarpanam , the facility is provided in the closed space within the same premise. The centre has running water as well as a pond nearby for the immersion of the Pindams offered. The AK centre is used by people from far away places like Nashik , Pune etc apart from distant suburbs of Mumbai. Thanks to Mr T L Kailasam, a well wisher of DM, who voluntarily offered to create a web site for Dharmishta Mithran, the same was launched around 2013 which helped spread the news of DM operations to people far and wide.

“In the early years since inception, recognising the difficulties encountered in modern homes for the performance of the Shraaddham for the ancestors , Mithran had rented a premise at Subhash Nagar Chembur for the benefit of Kartas . From the enthusiastic response from the many kartas in and around Chembur , Mithran invested in a larger premise and set up the Shraadhaa centre. A larger centre is now operational at Deonar with distinct cooking platforms and facility for simultaneous conduct of ceremonies by 5 or even 6 families. This facility too is being used by the people from all over Mumbai & suburbs and even from outside Mumbai.

And the good work goes on……………..
